Category Analyst

Job Description

The Category Analyst (CA) supports the Associate Category Manager (ACM) by implementing plans to ensure the success of the category strategy and playing a leadership role in coordinating and executing activities and processes with support teams,  Corporate Category Management teams, Supply Chain, and Merchandising. The Category Analyst is responsible to provide overall product assortment knowledge and process management. This is done through data integrity and co-ordination of merchandising assortments and in-store presentation for the our clients stores.

Responsibilities

-Source, prepare and analyze information for Line 

-Reviews; provide recommendations to Associate Category Manager; execute activities as required to implement Line Reviews including coordinating cross

-functional team activities (supply chain, pricing, merchandising, DataSource, IT). -Work with ACM to analyze product assortment and identify line change opportunities.

-Analyze all relevant information needed to optimize Category Management decisions. 

-Work with the ACM to identify the best opportunities to promote products. 

-Obtain and analyze market, industry, vendor, product and sales information to optimize Category Management decisions, including financial planning.

-Actively seek out and gather information from a variety of sources; analyze information, prepare recommendations and provide results of analysis to 

-Associate Category Manager to enable effective decision making.

-Provide relevant information for the budget planning process re: market trends and the impact of strategy decisions made by the Category Management team. -Problem-solve and trouble shoot to achieve desired business results. 

-Identify and resolve category issues using all available resources. 

-Escalate issues as needed and recommend solutions.

-Provide information to vendors, Franchisees, store staff, corporate colleagues and customers. 

-Respond to inquiries either verbally or in writing by providing customers, franchisees and vendors with specific product knowledge and service information. -Sell programs to our client Franchisees, Store

-Operations, and Commercial Sales Teams ensuring awareness and buy-in. -Prepare communication for vendors, Franchisees and internal staff to ensure awareness of category management activities.

Requirements

-
2+ to 5 years experience required


-University degree / College diploma (2 or 3 year program)or Bachelor degree in Business Administration, Marketing, or equivalent work experience 

-Demonstrated ability to use a systematic approach in solving problems through analysis of alternative solutions; to use logic, mathematics, or other problem solving tools in data analysis 

-As a member of a team, demonstrated ability to influence the actions and opinions of others in a desired direction; to exhibit judgment in leading others to worthwhile objectives 

-Demonstrated ability to prioritize realistic action plans while being sensitive to time constraints and resource availability within a complex work environment -Demonstrated written and oral communication skills in both formal and informal settings 

-Experience in and understanding of PC skills, preferably Microsoft packages such as Excel, Word, PowerPoint and Access 

-Strong customer focus 

-Ability to work one day a week out of our clients Vaughan office 

Nice to Have: 

-Developed knowledge of the Automotive Industry Experience and knowledge of CTC & our clients information systems 

-Retail experience (one year full-time or equivalent) preferably at a Canadian Tire store

-Demonstrated understanding of retail merchandising
